Islam Awareness Week has been held from the 23rd of feb to 27th of feb…..congrats to islamic society for their hard work…
On monday afternoon there was a talk about titled ‘the 1400 year old solution to the modern day of financial crisis’…a brief explaination about the talk…the talk given was mainly about the difference between the islamic finance n conventional finance…..n what makes the islamic finance better off compared to conventional finance was the main issue talked by the speaker named Faisal Sattar…however i will combine the some of the points delivered by a talk given on sunday
The unique thing about islamic finance is that it assure a sustainable growth which contradict the conventional finance…this is because the growth is stimulated by a mechanism called interest which is completely forbidden by islam….why??because it creates more money…..economist argued that interest should be charged due to money worth more than it is now in the future…..interesting argument isnt it??unfortunately it leads to boom n burst of an economy…
why loan offered by islamic banks are more expensive compared to conventional banks??ok lets put things into perspective….islamic banks charged fixed rate of return while conventional banks charged variable rate of return….it might seemed as if we as a consumers are worse off…however islamic banks are more flexible towards payment but not conventional….due to their aims at profits they are more keen on the value of properties….to proof ley say you’ve missed the monthly payment then the next day your properties are gone
interestingly…have u ever thought that islamic banks do offer discount to be more competitive in the market?yes it does….for example the current rate of return is 10%…as the conventional banks offer 6% of rate of return…the islamic banks are giving 4% as a discount in order to be competitive….the situation is vise-versa however the islamic banks will not charged more than the maximum of 10%….so in ur opinion are we still worse off??

on wednesday the 25th…there was a tallk given by Idris Tawfiq….personally i love the way he delivered the speech….even the title means a lot…’Tales of traveller: my journey to islam’……what a wonderfull talk…it touches everyone’s heart i believe…
the talk was about him…how he embraces islam…from a roman catholict to a profound muslim…what an amazing journey planned by Allah for him…how Allah touched his heart just by a boy giving his greet ‘assalamualaikum’……a boy who shine shoes on street named ahmad or ali or muhammad….may Allah bless him
he was a religious man whose mother went to the church everyday….he was a man who loved by people…he loves his job as a priest n enjoy giving bless to a wedded couple…however in his heart…there was something….something that he failed to content…then the journey begun as he seek for an answer…
with a holiday cost around £115 he started his journey…he landed at egypt which he dislike the most…he whispered ‘i wanted a holiday but not in spain’….but as fated the journey continued…he went to cairo…and then back to egypt…before he departed back to the UK….he was having a drink…suddenly he heard azan…amazingly people around him left everything and straight away make their way to mosque to perform friday prayer……he whispered again ‘what kind of faith this is??’
Back in the uk, he became a religion teacher who taught GCSE and A level students….As a religion teacher he has to learn other religious such as hindunism..buddism…including islam…ramadhan came…it happened that his office was the only room with the carpet….there were few muslim students came to him and asked permission to pray in his room….with consent from the headmaster they pray in his room…during the ramadhan…gradually he started to learn about the movement in praying
with his own incentive…he went to islamic classes and talk….one day a talk was given by yusuf islam…known as cat steven a long time ago….after the talk…he asked yusuf the condition of being a muslim….at the moment he never thought of being a muslim himself………….
yusuf islam said to be a muslim u have to believe in one god…then he replied…well i do believe in one god….hurmmmm muslim has to pray 5 times a day….he replied back…i do know how to pray and even recite doa….well muslim has to fast during ramadhan….then he replied….yes i did fast one day during ramadhan…
looking straight in his eyes….yusuf islam said….’who r you trying to fool my brother?you are already a muslim’….at that moment what yusuf islam said dancing in his head…..
Maghrib came….they as they praying….he was leaning on the wall….
‘who are you trying to fool my brother?you are already a muslim’……
he cried like a baby…..his heart felt something that he never felt before….he found what he has been searching for….at that day he embrace islam n believe in one god n the only god Allah the creator….yusuf islam asked him to go back n take a shower….he said ‘feel the sin that is washed away as the water flows’…….u r the purest of all….like a born baby as all ur sin in the past has been forgiven…
from there he became a muslim….a true muslim…alhamdulillah
